artificial general intelligence

Terms from Artificial Intelligence: humans at the heart of algorithms

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is the idea or goal of proecuing AI that can be applied across all, or at least a wide range, of domains and problems. Early AI systems tended to be very specific in the kinds of problems they addressed based partly on their mode of reasoning and partly on their knowledge base. The use of deep leaerning and in particular large-language models has rasied the possibility that these systems, currently relying on large volumes of himan generated materials, may already be at the edge of AGI. Others disagree, especially as these systems are effectively reaching the limits of human-generated data and will have to rely on some form of {[self learning}}.
